ARB has been selling its Earth Camper in Australia for a while, and it’s one of the more unusual off-road trailers out there: instead of a box sitting on a chassis, the steel frame wraps around the outside of the body like a roll cage. In January 2026, ARB USA announced the trailer will be sold in North America this year, with a base price of $59,900.
That’s serious money for a trailer with one queen bed, so we went through ARB USA’s published specs to see what you actually get, what it weighs, and what you’ll need to tow it.
Two versions: Base and GT
| Earth Camper Base | Earth Camper GT | |
|---|---|---|
| MSRP | $59,900 | $69,950 |
| Lithium battery | 100Ah | 400Ah (two REDARC batteries) |
| Roof | ARB BASE rack | Dometic RTX2000 air conditioner |
| Battery management | REDARC Alpha 50, 120W roof solar, Anderson input for portable solar, DC-DC charging while towing | |
So the GT’s extra $10,050 mostly buys 300Ah more battery and an air conditioner in place of the roof rack. If you camp in hot places and want to run the AC off-grid, the GT makes sense; a 100Ah battery won’t run an air conditioner for long. If you mostly camp in temperate weather and like carrying a kayak or extra gear on the roof, the Base is the better buy.
What’s in the box
- Frame: one-piece welded exoskeleton made from 3.5-inch steel tube, with four built-in jacking points.
- Body: fibreglass-reinforced polymer with no wood anywhere, and 1-inch foam-core walls and roof.
- Suspension: 35-inch trailing arms with vertically mounted Old Man Emu shocks, Dexter 12-inch electric brakes and Timken bearings.
- Wheels and tyres: 16-inch ARB alloys with Maxxis Razr All-Terrain 265/75R16 tyres, plus a matching spare.
- Bed: queen bed with a 6-inch high-density mattress. A push-button electric rear door opens the sleeping area in under a minute and folds down to become the hard floor of the living area.
- Kitchen: ARB’s stainless slide-out kitchen with a two-burner Dometic propane cooktop, sink, and a 103-quart ARB ZERO dual-zone fridge/freezer as standard.
- Water: a single 39-gallon tank with an electric pump.
- Dust: a filtered ventilation system that keeps the interior slightly pressurised.
The weights, and what they mean for your tow vehicle
| Measure | Figure |
|---|---|
| Dry weight | 3,395 lb |
| Aggregate Trailer Mass (max loaded) | 4,189 lb |
| Tongue weight (dry) | 463 lb |
| Payload | 794 lb |
| Underbody clearance | 15.5 in |
| Departure angle | 31° |
| Length / width / height | 13′ 8″ / 6′ 6.5″ / 7′ 7.5″ |
A few things stand out once you start doing the maths.
Your tow rating needs to clear 4,189 lb. That’s the trailer’s maximum loaded weight, and it’s the number to compare against your vehicle’s towing capacity, not the dry weight. Most full-size and mid-size pickups are rated comfortably above it. Some smaller SUVs are rated at 3,500 lb, which isn’t enough.
Water eats the payload. Water weighs about 8.3 lb per gallon, so a full 39-gallon tank is roughly 325 lb. That leaves about 470 lb of the 794 lb payload for food, gas bottles, recovery gear, bedding and anything else you load into the trailer.
Tongue weight counts against your vehicle’s payload. At 463 lb dry, and more once the trailer is loaded, the tongue weight comes straight off what your truck can carry. Add a rooftop tent, a drawer system and two people, and many mid-size trucks get close to their limit quickly. It’s worth weighing your rig before you buy.
How it compares on price
In Australia, ARB lists the Earth Camper from A$74,500, which GearJunkie put at about US$50,000 at the exchange rate when it wrote about the trailer. The US base price is roughly $10,000 higher than that, and taxes, registration and any dealer fees come on top. It’s firmly at the premium end of the hard-shell trailer market, so the case for it rests on the exoskeleton design, the build quality and ARB’s dealer and parts network.
If you’re building around a REDARC power system already, the trailer’s Alpha 50 setup will feel familiar. We covered the same charger family in our look at REDARC’s REDWorks power panels.
